Should I uninstall mcafee siteadvisor? Do I really need some program for security on my Macbook air?

No you don't need it. No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system. Your Mac has all the built-in protection you need.

I can't see any reason to use LiveSafe. And it's rather expensive at $80. It's as useless as LifeLock and other similar monitoring companies. It's extremely easy for the user to do something they shouldn't have, by passing the supposed "security".


All of these packages offer false hopes of protection from anything and everything. They can't do than any more than AV software can protect you from all malware. I've seen folks on this forum with four, and sometimes five different types of AV software running at once, and their Mac was still loaded with adware and malware.
