Scanning into same file

Hi,

I am experiencing an issue with my iMac.

I use the scanner a lot, so I am used to it creating a new file every time I scan (no matter if I scan just 1 page or 15 pages)

I used to name the scan "scan", so each time it would automatically add a number.

e.g.: scan.pdf , scan 1.pdf, scan 2.pdf, scan 3.pdf, etc.

All of a sudden it doesn't do this anymore. Every time I make a new scan, it gets added as an additional Page to scan.pdf. This makes no sense.

I do put the Check at "Combine into single document", but on my MacBook that means the current scan not all scans every done have to be in one scan. who would ever want that?!?

Is there anyway to fix this?

thank you!

What app are you using to scan with and what is your scanner make and model?

If you're using Image Capture make sure this checkbox is not selected:

The 3rd party VueScan also has a feature of adding scans to the first scan when scanning to pdf.

I use a B&W Brother MFC laser printer and have not experienced any similar issues, however, if it were occurring on my system I would try the following:

1) Download and install the latest Brother printer/scanner drivers from the Brother web site.

2) Reset the printing system software using the following procedure published by Apple. Once reset, reselect the printer and try scanning again once you've set your scan and printing settings the way that you want them.

If you can't print from your Mac or iOS device - Apple Support

Reset the printing system

If the issue continues, reset the printing system on your Mac.

This removes all printers and scanners—including their print jobs and settings—from Printers & Scanners preferences.

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners.
  2. While holding down the Control key on your keyboard, click anywhere in the list of devices.
  3. Choose “Reset printing system” from the menu that appears:

I am not using any app besides the Printers & Scanners feature that is automatically on the Mac.

My scanner is Brother MFC-L8600 Printer/Scanner/Fax.

It used to work fine for me until recently.

If I uncheck that box then I won't get one file with all the pages.

I do want one file with all the pages that I am scanning AT THIS MOMENT, that's why I checked that box.

But I don't want this ONE file to grow and keep adding Pages for every scan job I do for the rest of my life lol

How is this useful to anybody?

I don't know.. it used to work fine and on my other Mac it still creates a new file adding a new number each time, with the check at "combine into single file"
