Family Sharing - Remove parent Apple ID from child's iPod?

When we set up an iPod for a child, we obviously made some mistakes and are trying to figure out how to fix things. I've read that when you look at the child's device, you should only see the child's Apple ID and not the parent's. When you go to settings on his iPod, the name you see is the parent's name just like it appears on the parent's device. Clicking the parent's name takes you to the screen where you can then scroll to Family Sharing. Family Sharing shows the parent's name as the organizer and under that the child's name and age.

The way it is set up now, the child has access to the parent's iCloud account including photos, apps, etc. We are trying to figure out how to go back and configure the parent's and the child's accounts to work as they should. Both the parent and the child have Apple ID's.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like the iPod is set up using the parent's ID and not the child's ID. If there isn't any data on the iPod that the child needs to keep, I suggest you follow the steps in the article below to reset it to make it the child's iPod. When you set the iPod up again, use the child's ID.

Selling/Giving Away Device

If you want to try to retain data on the iPod, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed.
