Opening a New Tab

Hi, hopefully somebody out there can help me resolve an issue I have when opening up a new tab. Usually when I would open up a new tab, the new tab would show all my favourite websites and I would either choose one or use the search bar to access a different website. Now when I open a new tab it briefly displays my favourite websites then changes quickly to a Yahoo search engine. I've gone through all the preferences and I've not been able to locate where and how to stop this happening.

please see below

Any ideas how I can stop this from happening?

Regards

Hi andy178,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand when you open a new tab in Safari you're being redirected to a Yahoo! search page. I know it's important to be able to see your favorites on a blank tab; I'd like to help. I'd recommend using the resources below to clear your browsing history and review any extensions or plug-ins that may be causing the behavior:

If the behavior continues, I'd also suggest opening Safari Preferences to check that "New tabs open with favorites" is selected:

"To change these preferences, choose Safari > Preferences, then click General.

New tabs open with

Choose what a new tab contains.

    • Favorites: See websites you’ve marked as Favorites.
    • Top Sites: See websites you visit most often.
    • Homepage: The homepage you set in the Homepage field below.
    • Empty Page: An empty Safari window with no page address or content.
    • Same Page: The webpage you most recently viewed."

Change General preferences in Safari on Mac

Lastly, you can also download this tool to run on your Mac to check if there might be something else causing this behavior: Malwarebytes

Best Regards.
