Theoretically complete destruction is one of the reasons why Apple may decline their standard fee replacement, but for this there's a good chance that Apple may make an exception. This is definitely something that most manufacturers would like to see to figure out what might have happened.

Approximately where are you located? You could return it to Apple and see if they would offer a replacement.

There has never been a documented case of this happening with an iPhone that was not tampered with by an unauthorized party.

Was the display or battery ever replaced by someone other than Apple?

Was the phone ever exposed to liquids and subsequently dried out to continue using without having it replaced?

It's an iPhone SE where Apple still has hardware support. There's prices for battery/screen/other replacement.

I can see from your image that the battery had expanded and it is what caused the "fire".

iPhones have caught on fire before where there was no unauthorized modification or repair. It's not a matter of whether or not it's Apple, but there can always be random reasons why lithium batteries catch on fire. We're talking hundreds of millions of devices. I'm not an alarmist about this, but I know it can happen with nearly any type of device.

The article doesn't mention it, but they've talked to several reporters and told at least one that it had never been serviced by a third party.
