how to upgrade to macOS High Sierra 10.13

Dumb question - but I am trying to update from macOS High Sierra 10.12.6 to 10.13 and I can't find 10.13. I can only find subsequent releases, which can't be updated until we first upgrade to 10.13. Could anyone point me towards the right place? Thanks very much.

OK, that one is "late" enough: HighSierra and later can run on that one.

stop and delete the downloaded HighSierra first. Empty the Trash can.

Restart.

Then download High Sierra from here:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208969

(use this link when your mac can handle more than HS).

So you can clearly see that it is being reported as FAILING, how long ago did you install Sierra, your disk may not have been failing then. The thing do do now would be to back up all your important data and buy and install a new HD for your Mac.

If you click on the yellow Failing button you will see a description of the error and what to do next.

Now I did what you said and the result was the same. There were no errors, or maybe only one, in the description at the end of the recovery there were “repair file system” and a list of checkings, then again I tried to install High Sierra and it’s not possible, but it doesn’t tell why is not possible! I have a macbook pro, mid 2010, but I know that is possible to install High Sierra, is the last that I can install in this mac.

My doubt was the same that I was reading on this page because I found another page where they tell that you cannot install directly for exemple the 10.3.6 if you have 10.2. But if this is not true I don’t know what to do, it’s frustrating and I am loosing time.

Yes you go through the pages, accept the terms and conditions, select a disk and press Install. Just the same as you did for Sierra.

The installation can appear to grind to a halt but you need to be patient.

The countdown can be a bit arbitrary.

As for me having a solution for you, well all I can do is talk you through the motions of how to install, I am not near your Mac or yourself. You will need to do checks on your own Mac. Does your Mac have enough space to install the upgrade, apart from running First Aid have you tried Drive DX, https://binaryfruit.com/drivedx to check for the disks health.

what else have you tried to get the install to work.

Ok that is interesting that you installed Sierra just a few days ago. Perhaps the High Sierra install app is damaged.

You could delete it and download it again and see if that one will install.

And I don't know why you are lecturing me on the environment, the fact that you cannot install Mojave on your Mac has nothing to do with me. If you search the internet you can find a way of installing it on your Mac.

I did it, thanks a lot. I downloaded again High Sierra and this time it worked, the first download was surely bad, I don’t know why.

About environment it was only my comment if you work for Apple, I like Apple for several thing but it’s possible to do more, for exemple what Fairphone did for phones, modular phones. It’s a long discussion to start here, I agree.

It is clear: stop trying to install HighSierra !!

Make backups, backups, backups.

Then replace the disk for a new one.

If DriveDx says it is failing, it is FAILING !!

And going on is the more risky, because it will change or try to change the disk format when you try to install HighSierra !! then you will loose everything !!

Likely you have an expired version on your drive alrewadsy in Applications, called Install Mac OS something.

Either delete that & try again or...

I've read of 2 workarounds for older installers...

1. Disable Auto Time/Date & set clock back a year or more.

2. Disconnecting from the Internet then run the Installer.
