Signed up for apple music and can't sync my own itunes library

I recently signed up for apple music and got a new phone. It seems I can't upload my own iTunes library to my phone. Any suggestions?

Apple Music syncs through the cloud, unlike the traditional wired computer-to-device-syncing. The latter is disabled when the iCloud Music Library is active on your device.

Note that downloads from Apple Music for offline use need to happen on each device separately, directly from Apple’s servers.

Note that unmatched tracks can be uploaded from iTunes on a computer to your iCloud Music Library, to make them available to other devices. ‘Unmatched tracks’ would be content that is not available in the Apple Music catalog.
