Why is my empty mail app using icloud space

I deleted the mail app from my phone and ipad; it's only on my Mac. I deleted ALL emails from the address associated with icloud. I deleted all emails on icloud.com. Emptied the trash and junk files. Months ago I changed my icloud settings to only backup photos. On my Mac, when I go to prferences, then icloud the only boxes checked are photos and keychain.

After all of this, mail is still taking up space in icloud. How do I remove mail from icloud?

As per this article https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT208094

When you delete a built-in app from your device, you also delete any related user data and configuration files. This can affect things like related system functions .

To restore an affected functionality, you can add built-in apps back to your device.

For Mac see these articles https://support.apple.com/kb/PH12790?locale=en_US

Then view the cloud storage see this https://support.apple.com/kb/PH20785?locale=en_US
