Why does Google Chrome keep popping up and asking for me to make it the default web browser when it already is?

Hi, I recently updated to High Sierra and have been using Safari more often but I have google as my Browser. It's fine in Safari but whenever I go to Google Chrome a popup says "Do you want to make Google Chrome you default web browser. Than I check and I see it is my default web browser. I did check out Bing and Duck Duck Go but I went back to Google Chrome.

as you can see Google is the Default Browser.

The screenshot you posted is neither macOS nor Safari, nor does it appear relevant to selecting a default web browser client.

To change your default web browser, use  (Apple menu) > System Preferences... > General > Default web browser.

Wow, all this time and I never knew that. It says Safari.app is my default web browser. So what is in the picture showing google chrome as my default browser. Is that google doing that? Thank you very much for your help.

I don't use it so I can't be certain, but I think so. Whatever it is appears to be selecting a default search engine, which isn't the same as a browser.

Unlike Google, Safari is strictly a browser that can use any number of search engines: Change Search preferences in Safari on Mac - Apple Support.
