Brand new Airpods and L pod didn't charge in case...bad connection?

I purchased my Airpods a couple weeks ago and yesterday the L one had no charge even though it had been in case overnight. After taking it out of case and replacing it several times it finally connected and started charging. Seems as though the electrode connections weren't engaging. Does this happen to others very often?
