Find my AirPods How loud should the ping sound be?

How loud should the ping be? I'm setting up a brand new pair, 2019 wireless case ones, they are on the table next to me not in the charging case and they are connected to my phone, I can just, and I mean just hear the quietest ping ever in a silent room it does not get any louder no matter how long you leave them, if I put them at the other end of the small table I can't hear them at all, map location works fine tells me their location but there is no way I'm going find them in the house if that's as loud as they get, or do I have a faulty pair?

Ok, so I have sorted this problem,

after spending 30 minutes on a very irritating & unhelpful web / text chat with customer support who for some reason thought it was normal for the ping to only be heard 4 inches away on a table in a silent room!! (10 inches away you couldn't hear it!) and no I didn't want to make an appointment to speak to a tec specialist, I only brought them yesturday they are going back!

Before taking them back I thought try them on my phone, (these were purchased for my daughters birthday so of cause they are a problem) bluetooth on, put AirPods next to phone, open case, phone asks if I would to connect to this new device ? Didn't ask that last time, press yes, phone - please press and hold button on back of AirPod case? Didn't ask that last time, phone - set up Siri? Put AirPods in ears, 5 sentences to repeat, phone - all done

logged onto find my iphone, find my AirPods, play sound ....now so loud you can hear it in the next room!!

prize daughters phone from her hands, not an easy task! Delete Bluetooth connection from phone, reboot phone, start again, all now works fine, I assume the first time they simply didn't conect & set up properly.

Hello,

See this:

Play a sound:

If your AirPods are near any of your Apple devices and connected to Bluetooth, you can play a sound to help you find them from iCloud.com or the Find My iPhone app. Your AirPods play a sound that gets gradually louder for two minutes, or until you tell them to stop.

  1. Go to Actions > Play Sound.
  2. If your AirPods are separated, choose Mute Left or Mute Right to find one at a time.
  3. When you find your AirPods, tap or click Stop Playing.

Make sure that you remove the AirPods from your ears before you play a sound.

You could also try adjusting the side volume buttons on the phone and see if that helps.

Good luck.
