Unexpected restarts

What causes my desktop to occasionally restart on its own? This has started recently and at totally random hours.

Check the power cord to make sure that it is firmly plugged into both the back of the iMac and the outlet.

Go to Apple > System Preferences > Energy Saver and un-check "Restart automatically after a power failure" then test it that way for a time to see if it stays off instead of restarts.

If you are using a Surge Protector or APC, replace the surge protector and/or have the APC tested for a bad or weak battery.

If you are having other electrical issues in your home or office, please call a certified electrician to out check your electric service.

If the problem points to the iMac, then you will need to make a service appointment for your iMac.
