keeps restarting

My computer keep restarting on me. When it restarts I get a pop-up that says "your computer was restarted because of a problem". It also seems to not hold a charge anymore, I can have it plugged in and it won't charge. Do I need to take it in for a checkup or is there something I can try at home?
