Partioning a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) drive for use to test Mojave

Partioning a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) drive for use to test Mojave. Can I use my Fusion drive (Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to create another partition on which to test Mac OS 10.14 (Mojave)?

Many thanks HWTech and Eric

I'm now a little confused! I'm on Sierra (10.12.6) at the moment and contemplating the move to Mojave. Eric, I seem to remember something like that too, but did that change in Mojave to use fusion drives and convert them to APFS? Creating a partition seems even more of an issue than simply upgrading my whole machine right now. My iMac is from 2017, I'm on Sierra and all seems OK, but then I read about possible problems. What should I do? I think Mojave has been around long enough that any major problems have been ironed out - upgrade now?

@Eric Root, I forgot about Mojave not converting the Fusion Drive. No matter what Mojave will be fine with HFS+.

@Wild Mull, Mojave is a change from Sierra. I personally have not enjoyed the removal of features and other changes in the last several versions of macOS. I would suggest downloading the Mojave installer now while you can before Catalina is released so Mojave will appear under your "purchased" items. I personally wouldn't upgrade to Catalina until at least a month or two after release so any issues are patched.

A better option might be to get an external Thunderbolt3 or USB3 drive to test Mojave so you don't risk your main drive. There is always a risk resizing a partition and Mojave does manage the CoreStorage differently.

Hi Eric & HWTech

Many thanks to you both. I certainly want to act before Catalonia is released because I have one critical piece of software that won't run under the new 64bit regime. The software people are working on it but I fear it will be 2020 before they release.

For now I'll download Mojave and go from there. An external SSD I have (Time Machine backup), I'll have to get another!

Many thanks again.
