Is there anyway I can set up my niece's new ipad to text android phones? She has T-mobile cellular on tablet. And unlimited data. I love the ipad But not if she can;t communicate with all her friends.
I can't believe an Android and Ipad can't send and receive texts.

You're welcome. Until she has an iPhone, she'll only be able to text using iMessage, meaning to other iPhone users.

Thanks. Unfortunately her Mom won't let her have a phone yet, she's 10. But she had a small android tablet she used for 4 years. She could text anyone on it. But I like Apple so I thought I would get her a tmobile iPad.
Guess I didn't think about compatibility for texting.
iPad can't natively text anyone, unless you have a companion iPhone. iPad itself is not a cell phone, does not have a cellular radio, thus it cannot send SMS/MMS text messages on its own. If your niece however, has an iPhone, she can use Continuity Services to text to anyone she wants, including Android users from iPad. If she doesn't have an iPhone, then she cannot and she would be limited to texting with other iOS users only.
