HP printer scan to computer

I just installed a HP Officejet 9025 all in one printer/scanner. I had a HP Officejet 8600 that I could insert a page or pages into the document feeder and it would scan directly to my my Mac. The 9025 seems to need me to open another app to control the scanning features of the Officejet. Are there any work arounds to get back to the direct scan to computer function? Alternatively, is there a separate scanner for my Mac that will scan documents and send them directly to my computer?

Thanks for the info. Each of your suggestions require me to initiate the scan mode from my Macbook. My old HP printer was able to select my Macbook from other computers on the network and send directly to my download folder. The HP wizard told me the model printer I now have does not send scans to my computer unless I use an app on my Macbook.

Try the Preview File menu : Import from Scanner menu item. Or, try the 64-bit trial of VueScan which can support this HP device without any HP installed drivers, and send scans to your Mac.
