All videos play ultra-speed on every app on my Mac

This bug has been around for a LONG TIME - and Apple refuses to do anything about it... Apple also refuses to even acknowledge that the bug exists... but I've had this issue for a very long time - and doing a google search reveals that A LOT of people have this issue...

Randomly, every app on my system (youtube, keynote, quicktime) EVERY APP that plays video will play ULTRA-SPEED...like a 10 minute video will play in 2 seconds.

If I restart, it goes away - but then comes back!

I do a lot of presentations - and when this happens - Keynote becomes useless.

Apple - please... please... can you help?

This bug has been around for close to a year.

And one search on these forums shows someone getting chastises for not checking the activity monitor for a "runaway process" - well... to that individual - if you're reading this post... skip this one... because there is not a runaway process happening. There's also another post which points to an audio process - but this process doesn't even exist after Mojave - so that is also not the issue.

(as you can see - I'm quite annoyed at this) This is happening on an iMac Pro 2017.

To you incredibly helpful people out there (bless you all) - any suggestions?

Yes... it's in there! Thanks for that... but it's not a runaway process. Also... I noticed that when this happens... "Chrome Helper" is at 100%. The strange thing is... I think Chrome is freaking out because of this bug...not creating it... because it's system-wide. I'll keep at it! Thanks for the great feedback... you were right... it was there. When I quit Chrome - the bug was still there... seems like Chrome hates this bug... Youtube can't play (of course) - because it just buffers to the end of the end... (speeds up to it)... then the CPU goes nuts.

I didn't know about this issue until today, although it was bugging users like you for a year now.

You named a fix involving an audio process. Are you referring to this article?

The mentioned coreaudiod is present on my Mojave machine. It powers the Core Audio, the sound on macOS. You should definitely have it running on your machine.

Assuming that restarting coreaudiod fixes the video bug, I'd look for it.
