Apple Card Titanium activation fail

I have an iPhone XS Max and I’ve tried using the NFC method to activate. I continue to get the error message  "Cannot activate card. Apple Card Services are currently unavailable Please try again later ."

I have:

  1. Updated to the latest iOS 12.4.1
  2. Restarted the phone many times
  3. removed and re-added the card from the Wallet app
  4. Texted back and forth with Apple and Goldman Sachs support.
  5. Called Goldman support and was told that there is “an issue”
  6. I’ve looked for the button in the Wallet entry to activate the card, but cannot find any mention of the physical card at all.

Anyone else out there having this problem?

Talked to the support on 8/31, they told this problem occurs if the card was delivered to you before receiving the delivery tracking details to email. Asked to wait till Tuesday as this may not be solved over long weekend
