Damage of XR phone screen

I recently purchased the iPhone XR and when the phone fell from my son’s hand he had a screen protector and case on it and it cracked the front and back, you can not do any activity on the phone. I have been told you can pay a deductible at Verizon or go to The Apple Store near me. Will the Apple store help fix this phone without it being purchased in full from the store? I’ve been told different things and want clarification before I drive out of town.
