ios for imac late 2012

The lab (not Apple lab)has replaced the hard drive and reformatted my iMac 27" late 2012 and installed macOS High Sierra instead of Mojave , they did not installed the new mojave stating that High Sierra is the best os for and old imac and later OS are creating problems.

Any idea why Mojave was not recommended while Apple not mentioning anything.

Thanks for any answer or if somebody faced bad experience with the new Mojave os.

Older machines may not have the fastest hardware, hard drive, or enough RAM to run the latest OS to your satisfaction (as in: lots of slow processing of commands, opening apps, running apps, etc. That is most likely the reason for the explanation you got. However, your model states that it can run Mojave. You could try first making a bootable clone of your system on an external drive, then either install Mojave there or on your internal, so you can try it out. If there are any problems, you can simply go back to your current system.

Your lab not recommending Mojave has nothing to do with Apple. It is a local (and potentially flawed) decision, and at this point in time, all non-Security updates for Mojave have been released, so it is as stable as it is ever going to be.

If "the lab" replaced your hard drive with another (slow) mechanical or fusion drive, then it wouldn't matter if it was High Sierra, or Mojave — it will under perform due to the slow drive. I am running Mojave 10.14.6 (18G95) on my Late-2013 iMac (internal SSD) and it works very well without performance issues.
