I was away and my MacBook had been dead (no charge at all) for 1 month. I’ve now plugged it in and left it to charge for over 10 mins but it won’t power on.

It may take several hours.
Does the indicator in the power adapter turn amber (if so equipped)?
If not, you may need an SMC reset as well.

Try not to let the battery stay discharged for any length of time since the battery may not begin charging again and it can affect the health of the battery. If you are going to store the laptop for any length of time, make sure to leave the battery charged about 50% and power off the laptop. You may still need to charge the battery from time to time since the battery will still discharge even when the laptop is powered off.
