Apple ID issue

Hi,

I just changed my Apple ID because the e-mail that had been my Apple ID is no long active.

I reset my phone after making this change, and it's still showing the old email as my Apple ID and when I enter the new password I set, it's saying unknown error.

How do I get my phone to show up with the new Apple ID rather than my old one>
