Screen time limits not working

My daughters screentime is limited to 2 hours all apps and categories per day.

However she manages to run up 5 hours per day anyway... mostly snapchat and instagram.

i thought the 2 hours was culminative limit. Am I wrong? If not, how is she doing it?

The glitch seems to be related to Downtime and App Limit running at the same time. My daughter said that if she didn't use all her app limit when downtime hit, after midnight a screen would pop up that said 5 more mins, 15 more minutes, use for the rest of the day. She could set the apps to use for rest of day (since 12:01am is a new day!) and it was a free for all. I took away downtime and now the app limits are back to requesting a passcode to approve more time. It is disappointing that we cannot use downtime at the same time but at least there is somewhat of an answer. Hopefully apple will fix this on the next update.

It’s clear that Apple neither reads this chat board nor cares about the issue. After more than a year of calling tech support I’ve barely gotten one tech to make the smallest effort to investigate the problem. But the evidence that Apple doesn’t care is shown by their support staff’s complete ignorance of this issue; every time I call, the tech’s say it’s the first time they’ve heard someone complain! Really?!

So I’ve been speaking with my congressman and senators about crafting regulations for cell phones to force these companies to provide reliable parental controls. It is, at this point, a public health concern. Our children are addicted and suffering.

Folks, what you’re all missing here is that Apple’s software simply isn’t stable. No matter how or what you set the kids’ phone to do, it will fail at some point. I suspect it fails when the phone updates to the cloud and settings get re-set. But you’ll never be able to limit your kid’s use of the phone.

most disturbing is that I’ve been talking to tech support about this for over a year. They’re well aware of the problem and simply don’t care.

I’m having the same problem with Chrome and Wattpad. With other apps, Screentime works (yes, those two apps are not in “always allowed”). For some reason, these apps will become have Screentime enabled when I initially turn Screentime on. (I have disabled it, then turned it back on.) But within hours to days those apps start working as if Screentime wasn’t on. My daughter isn’t messing with it as I watched it happen with my own eyes. Is there something glitchy with Screentime and these apps?
