Maybe because your model/year do not meet the system requirements for the app. For example from the TI site:

TI Connect™ for Mac® Software System Requirements

  • Mac OS: 10.6.8, 10.7.5, 10.8.2
  • Processor: Intel® Processor
  • RAM: 512 MB
  • Java:
    • Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 8
    • Java for Mac OS X 10.7 or Java for Mac OS X 10.7 Update 1 or Java for OS X Lion 2012-003
  • Hard drive: 50 MB
  • Screen resolution: 800x600

Other requirements: Available USB Port for TI Connectivity Cable USB (silver), or direct USB cable
