2018 late Mac mini repair

Hello All,

I need consultation.

I have got issues with ssd controller. It was diagnosed in App store. Solution is to change whole motherboard.

i bought it in Jan 2019 in NY, USA.

The question is will I get totally new motheboard or refurbished?

There is typically no way to know unless the Apple Store explicitly tells you. You will not see them do the repair and a refurbished board would be visually indistinguishable from a new one. They even transfer your serial number to the replacement logic board so you cannot tell via that either.

Since your remaining warranty will still apply and the specifications will be at least as good is there really an issue?

Note: As the SSD controller is on this model part of the T2 chip and is glued to the logic board this repair would require replacing the entire logic board. The SSD storage itself is also glued to the logic board and will therefore also be swapped so make sure if possible to have a backup.

Be prepared to get billed for repair especially since you’ve opened it:

Repairing. Your Mac mini doesn’t have any user-serviceable parts. Do not open or disassemble Mac mini or attempt to repair it or replace any components. Disassembling your Mac mini may damage it or may cause injury to you. If your Mac mini needs service, is damaged, malfunctions, or comes in contact with liquid, contact Apple or an Apple-authorized repair center, such as an Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you attempt to open your Mac mini, you risk damaging your computer, and such damage isn’t covered by the limited warranty on your Mac mini.”

Sorry If I mislead you.

This photo is photo of motherboard I have got after repair from Apple. I wanted to change memory form usual 8G to 32G and found these traces.

The entire history if following:

  1. I have bought it in NY, but living in Ukraine (there is no official Apple Store).
  2. I have got issue with SSD controller.
  3. With help of local authorized re-seller I passed it to nearest AppStore in Poland (I was told so).
  4. In a month I have it back repaired.
  5. Then I found that it wasn't brand new card but looks like refurbished. Something was done with WiFi/BT module.

What I need to understand:

  1. Can I check in any App Store by serial # if my Mac mini was repaired in Apple?
  2. Should Apple provide any document after repairing.

I just has concerns that it wasn't repaired in Apple. Need to find way to check it.

if looks looks strange. This is why I have concerns.

please let me know how can I verify with support that my device was repaired in Apple. Should I get docs or supporting information like order ID for repair?
