Printing iMessage chats with color bubbles

I used to be able to print an iMessage conversation with the blue and gray bubbles. Now the bubble colors do not show up when I print. What happened, and how do I get the colors back?

You're probably right about it being a bug in the OS. Odd because it worked fine for me a year ago, but I've had some updates since then.

Your assumption about the screen capture is correct. That is a decent workaround for some situations but some of the conversations I would like to print don't fit on a single page. Is there a good way to get this problem to Apple's attention so they can fix it?

So, I checked with Apple support and was told, "it is expected behavior on the new macOS." So frustrating. He said that maybe it was because people complained about the ink usage from printing the blue and gray bubbles. I can't imagine there are a few million people that care one way or the other, but there must have been some whiners who got it changed. Ugh.
