iCloud on MacBook Pro

Messages sent from Mail on all my other devices appear in iCloud but those sent from my MacBook Pro do not. I have checked all the settings & Preferences & they are all exactly the same on the MacBook as on all the iPads & Mac Mini & all the other Mailboxes synchronise without any problem. Any ideas?

Hello Bazzyguern,

I see that you're unable to see mail that you've sent from your Mac in iCloud. I understand your concern since this is not happening with your other devices, and I'd be happy to look into this with you.

Let's start by restarting your Mac and then testing to see if the issue remains. If the issue remains, go ahead and sign out of iCloud on your Mac and then back in and test to see if the issue remains. You might want to send a test email after you sign back in. You mentioned that you have checked all of you settings, let's also be sure that you're signed in to your Mac with the same Apple ID as your other devices.

If the issue remains after signing out and back in, respond back with answers to the following questions

  1. Which version of software are you using on your Mac?
  2. Have you been able to see the mail on your Mac before? If so, when did you notice the change?
  3. Have you recently added a new application or updated your software?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks for your help, folk. I did contact Apple Support as you suggested, Allen & they managed to sort it out. Apparently I was accessing iCloud through one ID but from two aliases, one from the MacBook & the other from all other devices. Each had its own set of Sent Mail files.

With their guidance I was able to combine the two sets of files into one but don't ask me for details. I was too busy following the instructions to memorise them.

Anyway, its all sorted now, so thanks again to all of you for your help.

The answers to your questions are-

1/ Both the MacBook Pro & my Mac Mini are using Mac OS 10.14.6. Our iPads are using IOS 12.4.

2/ Not for some time, at least. Unfortunately I didn't notice the issue until I bought an iPad for myself fairly recently.

3/ I keep the OS updated to the latest version but I haven't downloaded any apps that would be likely to be involved.

When I signed back into iCloud after signing out, the list of Mailboxes changed slightly to be exactly the same as on the other devices & the contents all seem to be the same as well.

That means that the emails previously sent from the MacBook Pro had disappeared & the Mailbox Barrie Paige@icloud .com was now barrie.paige@me.com.

I had backed up the Mail files as advised while signing out of iCloud & I can see them in Finder but I have no idea how to do anything with the backup files.

I'm completely out of my depth now [quite common for me because I have a long history of attracting bizarre bugs in software & weird faults in other equipment.

`i would be really grateful if you could offer any further advice to resolve this issue. .

Answers-

1/ Only emails sent from the MacBook Pro are affected. Before I signed out & back in to iCloud I could see the sent emails from my @icloud.com account from the MacBook Pro on that device but I could not see @icloud.com messages sent from any other device. On all other devices I could see all of those but not the ones sent from the Mac/pro.

Since signing back in to iCloud I can see messages sent from the @icloud.com account on the Mac/pro since then on it & all other devices but I cannot see any of the @icloud.com messages sent from the Mac/pro before the sign out/in on any device.

2/ I only use Mail on all Apple devices.

3/ Since signing out & in I can send & receive messages on both the @me.com & the @icloud.com accounts without any issues, whichever device I use.

Trying to think back to the time this issue must have arisen, I think it must have been when The Management got her first iPad in about April 2015 because she was never able to see those messages. I never did anything about it then because it was quite convenient that she couldn't read them but when I couldn't read my own messages if I was in the wrong place, I thought that was going too far.

I can find the Mail backup files in Finder & I can look at them but although some bits are in plain text, the majority looks like the output from an Enigma machine, which wouldn't help me look back to see if I had insulted someone in the past, or if I

needed to do so now.

Many thanks for your help so far & I do hope you don't get bored with this subject before I get it sorted.

Hello Bazzyguern,

Thanks for keeping us updated and providing those additional details. We'd like to provide you with some information about Finder and the iCloud mail alias that seems to be appearing now, and then return back to the initial issue.

First, for help with Finder and files showing in Finder, take a look at the following article for more information.

Get to know the Finder on your Mac

Next, the issue with the email address being changed. Looks like it is now showing an alias for your iCloud account. The articles below provide more details about email aliases and how to remove them, if you choose.

iCloud: Use email aliases in Mail on iCloud.com

iCloud: About your @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com email addresses

Okay, now we have some other questions to help to isolate the issue some more.

  1. Are you only not able to see the emails that have been sent? Or are you not receiving them either?
  2. Also, are you using the Mail app on the Mac and not a webmail to access your mail?
  3. And finally after you signed out and back in, were you able to send a test email?

We look forward to hearing back from you.
