Valid payment methods for setting up Family Sharing include credit cards and debit cards. Only Apple ID account balance isn’t sufficient for the organizer’s role. You would want a reliable automatic payment method that doesn’t easily cause balance limit issues on the due day. An automatic payment method can offer reliable continuous service to all the group members. If you do have enough Apple ID balance each and every time the subscription fee is charged, then the additional payment method won’t be used.
