macOS High Sierra installer

Hi!

I have a MacBook Pro that doesn’t support Mojave with High Sierra installed on it. In a failed attempt to install Windows using boot camp I lost 60 GB from the hard disk.

I want to burn the High Sierra installer on a flash drive to wipe the hard disk clean and reinstall a fresh copy of High Sierra. But my problem is that I cannot find the High Sierra installer on the AppStore or anywhere on the internet.

I don't know what to do.

Any help is appreciated.

Yeah crazy deal, almost nobody gets the full installer anymore, I think Apple is afraid were to stupid to handle a full installer. :(

No idea if this still works...

In theory you download a full High Sierra installer from the Mac App Store. It is not listed anymore because Apple are encouraging people to use Mojave instead. There is an Apple KB article which however provides a direct link to the (hidden) item on the Mac App Store.

Of course as others have pointed out sometimes this results in only getting a 'stub' installer which is not suitable for then creating a bootable USB drive installer.

The way that I have found that is consistently able to download full installers is to run installinstallmacos.py as per

https://github.com/munki/macadmin-scripts

Ideally you run this on the Mac model you want to install on to.

Thanks for the fast reply!

The link directs to macOS High Sierra on the App Store but I doesn't download the full installer. When I press download I get a file in the application folder called "Install macOS High Sierra.app" but it is only 22.7 MB in size. Is it this the file that I must burn on the flash drive? I remember that the installer file used to be more than 4 GB in size.
