Apple Optical Drive does not work with Mojave 10.14.5 - what to do?

I've got a problem, got x2 Apple optical drives and neither of them are working with Mac O/S 10.14.5 - anyone know what I need to do to get these to work? I spent £100 on these as I still have a load of DVDs/CDs and also need to burn these as well for customers.

Try an SMC reset and PRAM reset (hold the PRAM reset for a full minute so it activates several times).

Have you tried using another USB port? Make sure to plug the Super Drive directly to the computer without using a hub.

Apple Super Drives are very odd devices. I've seen Apple documentation which actually mentions some Super Drives don't work with some Macs and the SD must be plugged directly into the computer. So it doesn't surprise me that an OS update might break compatibility.
