Text messages

I accidentally deleted an entire thread of texts from someone. I didn’t mean to delete ANY of it. I use iCloud and my phone was backed up on 9/4. When I attempted to restore from latest backup, it appears all texts were restored from that backup with the exception of the one I accidentally deleted. Am I doing something wrong? Is it possible to inadvertently delete something permanently? Hoping someone can help me.... I pray it’s not forever lost 🙏
