I use my iPod for music but more than that I use the calendar and small document reviewer. It is smaller than my iPhone and I just like the size as my iPhone is about twice the size. I also like the larger iPhone for my age. So if they do away with the iPod are there any alternatives?

Apple’s plans are Apple’s plans and users are usually the last to know. Personally I was surprised to see the 7th gen ipod given that iPods have been pretty much removed from Apple’s main website categories and pages.
The iPad mini? Other than a phone that’s about the only other device that has a smaller (being relative) footprint.
There's the iPhone SE and the iPad mini.

Apple just introduced the iPod touch 7. They are not doing away with it.
Thanks to all that responded. I like the iPod because it is just the right size for my purpose. I will hold on to one as long as they are made. Have a great day each and everyone.
