Is it better to have my watch mirroring my phone or will it be better to customize it when it comes to my messages I want my messages to come to my watch when I leave it home and it’s connected to internet! Is that possible

Apple Watch features I have the Apple Watch 5. Is there a way I can change the settings to do what my phone does. I have it picked for “mirror my phone” but specifically when I delete messages from my phone, they are still on my watch. Or when I read a message on my phone, it will not show its read on my watch. Which means it’s telling me I have X amount of unread messages and I really don’t. I’ve tried resetting and updating, but no luck.

I have my Messages on "Customize". You realize that Messages go to whichever device is awake. So if your Watch is at home it has to be asleep and the message will go to your iPhone.
