Connecting my Mac mini (2018) to my old iMac (2011) to use as a monitor

Hi Everyone,

Just trying to get some advice on what lead I need to get to connect my new Mac mini to my old iMac, I've thumbed through forums and seen different answers and already bought the wrong lead once!

I've been told its HDMI to HDMI and also that's its Mini display port to HDMI? And just to check mini display port - is it that same as a thunderbolt connection?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Neil

Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode - Apple Support - https://support.apple.com/HT204592 - iMacs late 2009-Mid 2014

It says you need a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable. I don't know which version Thunderbolt the old iMac has but it may involve:
