Using Guided Access on ipad for a Square app kiosk

We are using Square app and guided access as a kiosk for selling books. There seems to be an issue with 12.4.1 not allowing the approved area to be used when guided access is on. Whenever I turn guided access on, I can't select an item to purchase. What am I doing wrong?
