USB C adapters and video problem?

I have a new Mac Mini and an older HP ZR2740w monitor. The monitor only has Display Port, DVI-D, and VGA inputs. The mac has only HDMI and USB C.

I tried a few connectors - one that's USB-C to DVI-D and one that's HDMI to Displayport. And neither works unless I lower the resolution on the Mac. The monitor itself should handle the high res video. So perhaps its the drivers or the adapters?

Is there any way to get this to work?

Thx

usb-c to displayport is what you want (given that the usb-c is thunderbolt3)

both dvi and hdmi support lower resolutions than displayport
