You need a DUAL-LINK DVI adapter to get 2560x1600 resolution.

Many single-link adapters use dual-link DVI connectors, so you can't tell just by looking.
Thanks. Adaptor and cable both appear to be dual-channel. Max. resolution of 2560 x 1440 is possible when monitor is connected to DVI port on old MacBook Pro.
