After Mojave 10.14.6 update hard drives don't sleep (Mac Pro 5.1)

I have a refurbished Mac Pro (Mid 2010) tweaked a bit to think it's newer. 3.46Ghz 6-Core Intel Xeon processor. 32GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Memory.

Since applying the Mojave 10.14.6 update the hard drives no longer go into sleep automatically, nor, more importantly if I tell the machine to sleep.

I've reset the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM, created a new admin user account and the same behaviour exists using that. Done many internet searches and a few here (more to come) but haven't found the problem mentioned elsewhere, although some have reported trouble waking up after the update, not so much regarding not sleeping at all.

Anyone else experience this or have ideas as to what to try next? Thanks.

Thank you so much, this has been very helpful. I am not comfortable with Terminal, I've been using Macs for about 4 years now but seldom tackle the program, whereas in my previous life I was reasonably comfortable using c: prompt and dos commands in Windows. Never going back there again.

Anyway, I can't thank you enough. Pretty sure now it wasn't to do with the OS update. Having looked at assertions it seems that IODisplayWrangler was involved and a quick search revealed a solution which was basically resetting the printers & scanners. Something must've gotten out of whack when I was connecting my printer via ethernet and using powerline adapters. Problem seems to have been fixed after restart, but I'll keep an eye on it.

I really appreciate the very prompt response with very helpful information. This place now bookmarked.

Thank you.
