I have a gym card with a bar code (not a QR code) I'd like to add to my Wallet. But when I tap "Scan Code," the camera opens but does not recognize the bar code as such. It just takes a photo of the bar code. Is there a way to add a regular bar code to Wallet?

The Apple Wallet app will not be able to do this by itself as it is looking for barcodes with a compatible app etc. You will have to try a third-party app - I would recommend an app called "Stocard" https://stocardapp.com/en/au which can be used to scan barcodes and make them compatible with the Apple Wallet app.
