sales tax

Hi, Does anybody know what sales tax is paid for a purchase made from Hawaii for Hawaii State, with ID and credit card residence from Hawaii, but with pick up of item at a Los Angeles Apple store while traveling?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you have it delivered to Hawaii, you pay Hawaii sales tax.

You are having it delivered to California, so California sales tax.

This is similar to mail order taxes. Massachusetts has a sales tax. New Hampshire does not. Order something while in Massachusetts, with a credit card owned by a Massachusetts resident , but deliver it to New Hampshire, and there is no sales tax.

New Hampshire resident ordering something to be delivered in Massachusetts, pay Massachusetts sales tax.

Hawaii may also have a use tax, and if the Hawaii sales tax is greater than California’s sales tax, then you would get to pay the difference. However, the use tax, if Hawaii has one, is not automatic, and it would be up to you to declare it on your Hawaii state income tax return.

Note: I do NOT know Hawaii, nor California tax laws. So you should not take tax advice from me.

You are picking up in California, so you pay California sales tax.
