macbook air apps wont update or install, tried the deleting cache method but just ended up getting rid of the updates within the updates screen without getting rid of update notification bubble.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Needless to say, if you are using, or have used in the past, any non-Apple "anti-virus", "cleaning", or "Internet security" junk, anything at all in that broad category of useless garbage, don't. A lot of things won't work if you do.
