This sounds like a possible case of malware. Typically those pop-ups are nonsense unless you click on them, however. But, to err on the side of caution - you may find that a third-party (free) tool like Malwarebytes may help you!

If you suspect you have installed adware/malware. Try running this trusted utility https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/
No. Do not download anything. Do not install anything. Close the page.
Read Phony "tech support" / "ransomware" popups and web pages.
Do not click on "Scan Now". This is a scam. If you did click on "Scan Now" your machine has been compromised and you will need to re-install.
