sound not working on MacBook Air

My sound stopped working on my MacBook Air. The mute box is checked / grayed out and I can select it. In the volume bar it is also unable to be selected. When I go into my settings it shows that I have not output device connected to my computer. How can I fix or resolve this issue. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Resetting NVRAM could solve the issue.
