Enabling long press on keys (accents)

Hello everyone I am currently using a MacBook Pro (2019) and Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6. the thing is that sometimes the OS will let me long press a key and show me the accent options on it, but sometimes it doesn't and just keeps repeating the letter, does someone knows why is this happening, I write on Spanish and so I really need the accents, but I am using an American MacBook so its kind of annoying not being able to rely on the keyboard showing me the accents.

Many macOS ago there was a terminal command that wrote to the default:

defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true

Good morning FabricioG!

I see you have some concerns with accent characters not always working. I'll be happy to help.

Do the instances where sometimes the letter is repeated rather than being able to use an accent character occur in different apps? With certain apps where accent characters are not available, the letter will repeat instead. This also changes depending on where you're typing.
