sound icon is gone

I recently did the update on my iMac. Come to find out, the sound icon that normally appears in the upper tight hand corner is gone. Any idea where it went and how can i get it back? thank you

System Preferences - Sound and check the box that says "Show Volume in Menu Bar" at the bottom of the window. It looks like:

sound icon is gone
