The correct procedure, in order to install a fresh copy of iOS, is:

  1. Create a full backup of your device;
  2. Restore your device to factory settings and, in the end, set it up as new, using these steps:--> Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
  3. When done, restore data form your previously made backup.
