Good morning,
I have been invited to join a whatsapp group for an old friend of mine who is terminally ill. I normally avoid facebook and google like the plague. Unfortunately there is no work-around for this so I will have to join whatsapp. On reading the T&Cs it appears that whatapp hoovers up the contents of my contacts database on my iphone. This is one of the many reasons I avoid facebook etc. I assume that, after installing the app, I have to give permission for whatapp to read my contacts. However I am not convinced that whatsapp will not automatically help itself to my contacts during installation, even using iOS.
Can anyone in the community confirm that I will retain control of my permissions after installing whatsapp?
Whatsapp claim that access to the contacts is required for to link names with phone numbers automatically. I would prefer to do this manually. Is it possible to do this in whatapp?
This issue has made me think that it would be useful to create multiple contacts data sets with separate permissions. There does not seem to be a simple way of doing this in iOS. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Many thanks in advance,
Gary
