turn off passcode ipod touch 7

I just got a new Ipod Touch 7th generation. I can't turn the passcode off. When I go to Settings->Passcode and enter my passcode, then select the Turn Off Passcode link, I get a popup asking if I'm sure. I select yes, but nothing happens. I've done this numerous time and the password is still required.

Hello rwolgemuth,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that you have been unable to disable your passcode even though you have been though all the steps. What you are describing sounds like a profile from an employer or school could be installed on your iPhone which could prevent you from removing the passcode. The following article will provide you with steps on how to remove a profile that has been installed on your iPhone:

Thank you for your reply. I do not have the Settings  > General > Profiles & Device Management path. There is no "Profiles & Device Management" in the General settings list of items and I do not see it anywhere else. I have not updated iOS on this since I bought it a month or two ago - I am going to try that. If it is relevant, I did set up the iPod via link to my iPhone which does have passcode enforcement.
