I installed the new iOS13 and I set up dark mode to switch automatically at sunset. Sunset in my time zone was at 6:53PM today. I was expecting dark mode to automatically change from light to dark at that time, but it didn’t.
What time zone and what time is dark mode supposed to switch automatically?

My automatic change to Dark Mode occurred somewhat after sunset (~30 minutes). Perhaps that is because this is the first time we’re doing it.

As a previous poster already mentioned, sunset to sunrise doesn’t mean the exact astronomical times. My dark mode turn on about 20-30 minutes after sunset. Also, it was mentioned that iOS may wait until you are not using the screen.
Check your settings.
In Settings->Privacy->Location Services->System Services
Make sure all the settings are properly enabled including
"System Customization". Delays may be due to the system
defaulting to some default time zone.

I have found that my automatic dark mode switch occurs, but it seems to happen between 2 and 3 hours after sunset. I wouldn't call that slightly delayed. Funny thing is in the morning it appears to switch Dark mode off at sunrise with no problem. I can't find any reason for the delay...sigh.
I'm not sure how this is marked as solved as no solution was provided to me other than checking some settings.
I see mine changing at 10 pm. I’m on EST time and sunset is way before that time now. Light mode works at the sunrise time. Very odd that it does this and know I’m not the only one. Most must not be caring because they put it in dark mode all the time. This topic shouldn’t be resolved as it isn’t resolved yet.
Agreed. If you ask Siri when sunset is, it will tell you the time that dark mode isn’t changing at. Strange.
I would manually set the time but there’s no way to do this for Catalina so I’ll just burn inside from the inconsistency 😂
I am having this problem too. My computer recognizes when sunset is because night shift will turn on at the proper time, however, dark mode doesn't turn on until an hour or two after sunset. I have all location services turned on and my system time is correct. iOS and Mac OS should be consistent when turning on dark mode.
I can tell you that the Night Shift time is not relevant to Dark Mode.

Everything is set on. It will turn to light automatically but not dark. It is an hour past sunset and I waited 2 hrs past sunset the day before and still does not turn to dark mode automatically.
I’m having problems with the dark mode as well. It doesn’t automatically change. I have it set for sunset to sunrise but I have to manually change it. I’m noticing other little bugs as well.
