When i tried logging in my password was incorrect. I tried resetting it in OS X Utilities inside of the terminal using reset password but there was nothing in the volume containing the user account. I also tried to reset with command + s and it never appeared. I also tried to reset using Apple ID but it failed to reset. Are there any alternative ways I can reset my password? I don’t want to be locked out of my MacBook.

If I understand correctly, you are not able to log into the MacBook Air because the password is not working. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting to solve this issue.
